One of the greatest misconceptions I've ever heard about women (and people in general), is a quote I once found in an Indian book I was browsing through while shopping at some tiny book store. I'm not sure whom that quote belonged to, but I've always had it clinging to my memory, somewhere in the back of my mind. I guess I wasn't able to get it out of my head completely.
Roughly translated, the quote stated, "You need to love a woman, not understand her".
That's probably one of the stupidest things I've ever read or heard in my life, and not even because it was referred to the women. It seems like many people don't realize how important it is to have someone in the world who'd understand the simple truth that there is more to you than meets the eye.
If you think about it - if you really, really think about it - we live in the world of strangers. There are more than 6 billion people in the world. Most of them, of course, you'll never meet. Some of them you'll meet, but wouldn't really know. Some you will know, but wouldn't like. Some you're going to like and maybe even love. And, finally, if you're very, very lucky, you're going to meet at least one person you will love more than all other 6 billion people you live on the same planet with.
So, what my point is...
When you live in the world full of strangers, on the planet inhibited by billions of people who will never know who you are, in the Universe where maybe only God knows that there is such a galaxy with such a planet you call home - you need to have at least one person in the world who would see you as you are and understand what you're all about without wishing you were somebody else. And if that person it not someone who loves you, then... What's the point?

I agree. To hell with the 'oh so wise' ppl who think they can define universal stuffs like love.
Anyway, you're really making your point there.
Thanks for the comment on my post! Yes, the tattoo did hurt!
I don't think it's possible to fully understand any human being, even yourself. What love allows is the acceptance of someone for who they are. Even if they can't be understood, they can always be appreciated.

Yeah, but if nobody understands you, how could you be sure anyone even knows you?
It's impossible to learn all the ins and outs of human nature, but when that nature is familiar to you or similar to yours, you get to understand it more than other people.
My nature is familiar to me to the tune of three decades, but I still wouldn't claim to understand it.
So I can't agree, Lyssa. But I'm an old cynic. ;)

@Stephen Reese
Don't you have someone in this world you understand? Or somebody who understands you? Someone you could say, "we get each other" about?
My post was not about the understanding of human nature on the Universal level. It was about simple understanding between people and how it's impossible to happily live ever after with someone if that understanding is lacking.
My point is: it's just important to have someone who would understand you - why you're hurt and what makes you not hurt. I don't know how about everyone else, but for some people, it matters.
